Canada Day at Lafarge Lake

I had the pleasure of attending Coquitlam’s Canada Day celebration at Lafarge Lake Park. It was quite a festival, with many artists and business there showing off what they had to offer. There was a huge food court as well where they had sample size food that you could purchase. It was just the right thing to have as you walked through and tasted various foods from different restaurants.

There were canoe rides for the kids as well as bouncy castles, face painting, free tattoos, plus much, much more for the kids. My daughter was still too young for all of that but it’s nice to look forward to that for the future.

I believe it was the first time for fireworks this year at Lafarge Lake, we had to leave by then anyways as the fireworks did not start until 10:30. My daughter was home and long asleep by then. I did get to see the full show from my upstairs office window though and I must say it was quite an impressive sight!

I am very glad that Coquitlam has stepped up their Canada Day celebration for the citizens and I look forward to taking my family there for years to come!

Spotty Market in GVRD

As this year’s market is starting to unfold we are seeing quite a bit of disparity. Some Realtors are saying “the market is flying. Nothing is staying on the shelves”, while others can’t get any action on a listing. Some places just sit there while others close by are sold in days. That seems to be the trend in the Lower Mainland lately.

The difficult part of that is that sellers are hearing the news that the market is “hot” and they increase their prices. The simple fact is that the market is hot “in some areas” but not everywhere. So sellers have to look at things more specifically when they are pricing their own properties.

Ahhhh to wait for a balanced market… I think that may be a thing of the past. I hope not!

Westwood Plateau

Westwood Plateau sits on 1400 acres of land on Eagle Mountain. The previous crown land was purchased by Wesbuild Corporation in 1989 to develop into a Westwood Plateaureal estate community. Today it has some 4,525 homes and houses approximately 15,000 residents. Almost half of the 1400 acres has been retained for green space. There are many ravines running through, as well as parks and hiking trails throughout.

Westwood Plateau residents can do more than just live there. Wesbild has provided two outstanding amenities in the form of golf facilities. The Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club is a world-class facility with 18 holes of challenging play and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding mountains. The Westwood Plateau Golf Academy provides 9 holes of executive play, plus 3 practice holes and a 66 stall driving range with two levels. Stunning clubhouse architecture completes the golf experience. All the golf facilities are fully open to the public.

There are also 4 elementary schools and one middle school located throughout the plateau. A busy strip mall called the “Westwood Plateau Village” has many shops, restaurants and coffee bars so you don’t have to go too far for your everyday needs.

Lafarge Lake Coquitlam, British Columbia

Lafarge Lake is a five hectare man-made lake in Town Centre Park in North Coquitlam. It was part of the original rock quarry but was reclaimed by the city of Coquitlam in the 1970’s. It also houses the Evergreen Cultural Centre on the Southwest shore of the lake.

Families in Coquitlam can now enjoy a better fishing experience with the opening of a new fishing pier at Lafarge Lake. Stocked with Rainbow Trout from the Fraser Valley Hatchery, the lake provides more fishing opportunities for new and experienced recreational fishers.

The 10th Annual Family Fishing Day is on Saturday, June 14. In addition to a cake cutting, the opening celebration for the fishing pier will also feature two biologists who will be on hand to talk about the fish stocking of Lafarge Lake.

There is also the 6th annual Envision Financial Light the Lake, which will be the biggest Christmas party in the Tri-Cities! The fun-filled family event features a Christmas market with hand-made crafts and holiday gifts, activities for the kids and those young at heart, hot chocolate and other yummy treats, as well as strolling carolers, entertainment and choirs.

Lafarge Lake Park will be transformed as Light the Lake will once again include appearances by celebrity emcee Steve Darling and of course Santa and his elves.
